Facing Reality

It is not uncommon to avoid the truth. Whether it is a bad grade or a shattering relationship, we hate to face the truth so much so that we might start living in a fantasy world, believing that things will miraculously change for the better on their own. However, the fact is that things don’t change on their own and you must accept reality if you want to be strong and successful in life. Here are a few suggestions on how to face reality.

1.     Open Up: Tell the truth to someone who cares. Call a person who can listen without being judgemental and won’t feel compelled to give advice. Do not worry just yet about what you will need to do next. This is a way to starting to accept the reality yourself while the goal is to get the necessary emotional support to hold you up while you allow the reality to sink in.

2.    Find A Friend: Look for someone who has dealt with your type of situation before and can help you make a smart action plan, for example your teacher, a relative or a class fellow or perhaps a close friend.

3.    Sacrifice: Living a life based on truth may require you to sacrifice a little and adopt a few things. For instance, if you have been ignoring your studies to have a good time, you may need to reduce your ‘’leisure time’’ to allow the change to take place. Patience, the ability to bear uncomfortable feelings and the willingness to face the worst, are some of the things you need in your pursuit to face reality.

4.    Will Power: When you question yourself, when you begin to falter or when you lose hope, use all the will power you have inside you to help you stay on the path. You might have a tough time in the beginning towards making yourself face the reality but always remember that you are not just building a great life but are also building a great character and it really helps you to grow stronger, which in itself is a great achievement.

5.    Conclusion: In the end, recognizing that you must face the reality in order to change yourself may be hard, but embracing this fact is your key to success and strength and the only actual thing that will really work for you is your own will power. When we release ourselves from the grip of denial, we open the door to truth and if there is one thing I know for sure, it is that all great things start there. As they say that truth is stranger than fiction but it is rewarding too. It rewards your self-esteem and your conscience and you feel free. So go ahead! Face the truth and this will make your life easy and successful. You will feel like a totally new person and the people around you will also feel relaxed in your company and respect you for your realistic personality.
